Grammar perfection

I subscribe to a couple of Fast Company's daily newsletters and believe it or not, I actually read them every morning! One article from yesterday caught my attention and made me laugh. A tutoring company in the UK called The Tutor Crowd has a tumblr devoted to correcting grammar and spelling mistakes on graffiti. Absolutely brilliant!! This particularly made me laugh since I used to carry around a sharpie that was regularly used for just this purpose. Nerd...

We had a friend over for dinner which involved loads of laughs, a bottle or two of wine and "Strictly Ballroom". There was painting in the kitchen (can't wait to share befores and afters) and a trip to Hoboken to see Owen. Last but not least, Sunday afternoon we went for a walk through the Village, stopping at 16 Handles for some yogurt and Sockerbit to pick up some Swedish candy. In the evening we went on a little date to see the new Studio Ghibli movie "From Up On Poppy Hill" (I loved it, so beautiful and sweet) and to Dokebi for some yummy bibimbap. Over all, it was a good weekend. The cold was a bit half hearted, you can feel winter is finally losing it's grip. Can't wait for warm sun and cool breezes! Here are some shots from our Sunday walk.

(I'm taking a class in two weeks to learn how to use the manual settings on my camera. Can't wait!)

Other than Friday night's little adventure, this weekend was one of those cold, drear and drab weekends when I was lazy, uninspired and did I mention, cold?! Saturday we were so lazy that we had greasy spoon Mexican food delivered for breakfast and literally the only reason I left the house was to go work a wedding. I mean, really, nothing else could have dragged me outside. Sunday was a quick and quiet brunch with my honey around the corner then a very cold and dreary walk up to Greenpoint to take some snaps before meeting a friend to go to PS1. Oh yeah, turns out the artist Cyprien Gaillard wasn't doing a talk (where did I even get that idea??) but there was a nice little party. It was worth the trip to see some pieces we missed the other day.

Oh, and guess what... It's still cold and dreary!! Everything is still grey, still wet, still cold. But just two more days to spring. I can make it... Here are a couple shots from Sunday. Still learning how to use that camera...

Friday's for folk

posted on: Sunday, March 17, 2013

Friday nights when I work on Saturdays are designated date night. Last weekend we had a nice little ramen date, planned by my honey, but this weekend I planned the date. I'm not sure where but somewhere I read about a little folk and country event going down at a bar not far from our house. We tried a new restaurant (yum!) and then headed to the bar for some tunes.

The first band was great, a folk band called Down Hill Strugglers. Friday night they were a three piece, playing some great Americana bluegrassy folk. The next band, Dubl Handi, was along the same lines and were super good. While we didn't get up and dance, the energy was great and we had a wonderful time. The main event was called Y'all Lost Control, a country western Joy Division band. They were good but we were wiped out and left after a few songs to go home. Good times.

watching these "7 Minutes in Heaven" videos, a project hosted by Mike O'Brien from SNL. So funny. The first one I watched was the Joanna Newsom one. By the way, how did I not know she has been with Andy Samberg for years?! What an interesting couple...

Saturday I gave myself an extra hour to get to work and got off the train a few stops early. I went for a little walk around the Gowanus area and snapped away.

Sunday afternoon we went to 52nd and 12th to go the Armory Show but once we arrived, waiting in a long line just didn't seem an appealing way to spend our hours of sunshine. Off we went on a little walk along the Hudson waterfront, past the Intrepid, through a Tibetan protest and along the highline. Sundays are my favorite...

First thing this morning, even before brunch, we trekked over to the House of Vans in Greenpoint to check out Dennis McNett's "Wolfbat's Arc" installation before it came down. Last night was an epic performance and party (unfortunately I was working and didn't get out in time to catch the last of it...). Those Vans dudes know how to have a great time and their events never disappoint. Dennis McNett's work is a perfect fit for their vibe and he's had pieces in there from day one. His viking ship is a particular favorite of mine. As awesome as seeing the performance would have been, there's something kind of great about seeing the pieces the next morning, after they've been thrashed by revelry and in the harsh light of day. Broken pinatas, plastic babies littering the floor, etc. (90% true, 10% just trying to make myself feel better about missing the party)
