I've been doing a lot of thinking about the sort of lifestyle I want to have, the sort of activities our family should do, etc. and lucky for me, the dear hubs is on the same page. Alan started running last year and now runs 6-8 miles a day 5 or 6 days a week. I started running last summer aaaannndddd... sort of let it taper off. But! I'm working on getting it back. I signed us up to do a 5K in July with some friends and we're also talking about signing up for a half marathon for November. Motivation to get my ass in gear.
Along those lines, we're in solid agreement that we'd like to be the sort of family whose family activities revolve around physical activity. My brother and his wife set a great example to follow with their mountain bike racing and adventure racing and fishing and gardening and such and I totally want to be like that. So for Memorial Day, we went on our first family hike. We slept in a bit and went to brunch while Alan sorted out some work stuff (like, you know, clearing his schedule for the day...) so we got a bit of a later start than I'd originally planned. But hey, wouldn't you know? One of the joys of this great city of ours is that all we have to do to get to some trails is drive right across the George Washington bridge to the Palisades. 16 miles from our house! While our hike wasn't the most strenuous, it was definitely a good start and that view from the cliffs was so worth it. YAY NATURE!
