Lunch: Cafe Gitane at the Jane Hotel

You know, it's really important to have a healthy work/life balance. It's hard sometimes to remember that when you're an overachiever who is also a procrastinator who is also maybe sort of kind of a little bit of a control freak. It's easy to get sucked into the whole eat at your desk and work until late and so on and so forth. But, it's not always the best thing to do! Right? Right! So one of my goals for the new year is to make sure I go outside! Partway through the day, even if I eat lunch at my desk (which goes hand in hand with my plan to be more fiscally responsible), I WILL go outside and walk around. I mean, after all, I work in and near one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Manhattan! Lots to explore, lots to see, lots of fresh air to clear my head.

Part of this better balance goal is to also occasionally go somewhere for lunch, somewhere nice and pleasant and sit the eff down and have a nice lunch! Thursday my very very awesome friend from my previous job made the trek across town to come visit me and have lunch. I'd been wanting to go to the Jane Hotel to Cafe Gitane as I'd been seriously craving that avocado toast (look it up, it's a serious cult favorite and for a good reason - it is DELICIOUS!). Luckily, it's seriously just a couple of blocks away. No excuses! So, off we went.

Let me tell you. Alright, I'll just tell you. Best idea I've had in a while! The place was super quiet so it was peaceful, our waitress wasn't rushed and smiled a lot, and we had a fantastic little meal and a great chat and I was back to the office in less than an hour. I mean, really, if that's not a happy face, I don't know what is...

  1. Sitting down for a decent lunch and really enjoying it is one of my favorite things to do, but just like you said, it rarely happens! Most of the time it's lunch at my desk too... That toast looks great! x

    1. Oh man, it tasted every bit as good as it looks.
