… gathered a few lovely people to drink and carouse. We ate tamales and quesadillas and some mac and cheese (healthy!) and played cards against humanity and did a gift exchange and watched that amazing version of the Nutcracker that the Pacific Northwest Ballet Company did back in the 80s. We made mulled wine and I put way too much whiskey in the egg nog and nobody drank it. It was quite lovely, friends, it really was. I wish I'd managed to snap photos of my friends that were up to par for sharing, somehow they all ended up blurry or washed out or one person in the photo looked fantastic while the other person was pulling a face… (And I was very specifically asked not to share unflattering photos so there you go.) But at least someone got a couple of great photos of me with my cotton candy and I got one of Alan in tears after his gut reaction to the grumpy cat, "No! No! I don't want it! No! Please, somebody, take it!" Sooooo funny, he'll never live that one down! While being home in Texas or in Arizona with our family would have been amazing, we made the best of it and had a grand ol' time.

At some point I'm going to have to pull myself out of this house and go out in this dreary gross weather… Just as soon as I finish this episode of Sherlock...
